With the omnipresence of technology drastically changing almost every aspect of the way we live, naturally it has seeped into the way we work as well. Big employment trends such as artificial intelligence, digitalisation of roles, and obsoleteness of skill sets and jobs moved fast and furious throughout industries in the last couple of years. Job security and longevity started adopting short-term definitions. The clamour to maintain and enhance versatile employability intensified momentum.

One (comforting) thing to note and remember is we are not the only ones evolving. Organisations and higher education institutions are dynamically reinventing and repositioning themselves according to the on-going trends as well. In this issue, many employees share how their corporations invest in employee development and skills upgrade. Schemes and initiatives are being introduced to cater to work-life balance and personal development of staff. Job processes and role functions take creative and innovative turns.

Partnerships with top global universities, such as courses offered or exchange programmes, are bolstered. Work attachments and internships are arranged to groom and develop workforce-ready graduates.

So while the big wheels of employment trends will keep on turning, keep in mind that you are not moving in isolation. There is always a perfect fit for the career path you have envisioned or the degree you have considered.

You just have to read on.
